October Nights–Drupal #2

A few more skills to add to your tool bag tonight.

Polls

This is really, really simple.

1. Go to “Modules” and “put a check mark by “Poll.” (Sorry, forgot to have you do this on Thursday night). Then…scroll to the bottom and hit “save.”

2. Now, go to “content,” then “add content” and “Poll.”

Audio

Now, let’s embed some audio.

At this point, the industry standard for embedding audio is soundcloud. You can sign up for an account and upload something you’ve made (which I highly recommend), or…embed something someone else has done.

After you upload the file, you will have an embedded player that looks like an audio-only version of Youtube. Hit “share” and then grab the “embed widget” (NOT the wordpress code or the link). Screen Shot 2013-03-11 at 7.35.47 PM

Then…take that code, and drop it into your article/page. Be sure to turn your box at the bottom to FULL HTML, or it won’t work.

And, you’ve got embedded audio.

Video

Embedding video works much the same way, only you have a couple more options.

Go to a YouTube video…and click “share” then “embed”

The most common mistake here is the people grab the “link” code thinking it’s the embed code.

Don’t do this.

Note that you can change the size of the video (dimensions).

EMBEDDING a VIDEO THAT STARTS PART WAY IN.

Step 1…uncheck “show suggested videos when this video finishes” and get the embed code.

Step 2…change rel=0 to

start=75

If you want to start the video at 1 minute 15 seconds, you’d do start=75 (75 seconds is 1 min. 15 seconds).

If you wanted to start a video at 20:14, you’ll do:

start=1214

There are 1214 seconds in 20 min. 40 seconds.

Cool?
