There’s been a lot of mixed emotions about the upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, mostly because there are so many mixed emotions about the film’s director, Baz Lurhmann. His Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge movies are practically required viewing for modern film students, but his flashy, excessive style strikes some as the wrong tone for what might be rightly considered the Great American Novel. Of course, since The Gilded Age was such a famously flashy and excessive decade, Luhrmann’s touch might be perfect. Back in 2011, Hulu partnered with documentarian Morgan Spurlock and filmmaker Richard Linklater to create new programming for its website, which primarily offers content licensed from TV networks. Along withThe Awesomes, Hulu will also feature new shows from Carson Daily, Jay Mohr Chris O’Dowd and others.

Recently, Amazon unveiled several pilot episodes of original shows its developed and is allowing users to vote on which ones they want to see make it into production. But really, how can either site possibly top a new season of Arrested Development beingreleased this month on Netflix? Seth Meyers, going head-to-head with the Bluths? Really? He’s made a huge mistake … DISCUSS
